DESCRIPTION The first music video from Liam Gowing’s debut album Drunk Sluts Forever, The Perfect Parasite follows its troubled protagonist as she attempts to buy weed, to have a drink, to score some blow and to eat a taco in a mad world in which everything one can ingest is suddenly replaced with pharmaceutical pills.
Written by Liam and produced by Ashley-Martin Dunn, the video was directed by Cannes Film Festival Bronze Lion Award-winning filmmaker Steven Hanft, who directed the classic music videos “Loser” and “Where It’s At” for Beck, the long-form documentary “Strange Parallel” for Elliott Smith, and other noted videos for the Cure, Primal Scream and Phoenix.
Starring Jennifer Rosetto as the protagonist, Jeffrey O’Connell as the weed dealer, Lizeth Bejarano Gardner as the coke siren, Dennis Neder as the bathroom pharmacist and Holly Catarancuic as the junkie psychiatrist with Liam, playing the various instruments that compose the track, as the Greek chorus.
Special thanks to Preston Thalindroma of Say Cheese and Die for taking stills and all the extras for loaning their drugs to the set.
THE PERFECT PARASITE
—————————————-
Prozac, Ativan, Ritalin or Valium
One dose will make you feel better
Doctor’s orders, temple scribe,
Hippocratic oath or bribe
Two rights then left at the letters
So listen, I’m freezing.
I’m feeling sick and I can’t find a cure
Wake me when it’s over.
I’ll be here right beside the door
Pot, coke, crystal, H—this will have to regulate
Okay, it’s around the next corner
Never mind the legal highs with thoughts of murder-suicide
I think we’re gonna make a killing
So listen, I’m freezing.
I’m feeling sick and I can’t find a cure
Wake me when it’s over.
I’ll be here right beside the door
You sit around, feeling down, living life on your knees
If you lack the will, there’s a pill to turn your fails to disease—It’s easy!
SOLO
You sit around, feeling down, living life on your knees
If you lack the will, there’s a pill to turn your fails to disease
Prozac, Ativan, Ritalin or Valium
One dose will make you feel bitter
But if you’ve lost the will to fight, it’s the perfect parasite
It doesn’t kill its victims
So listen, I’m freezing.
I’m feeling sick and I can’t find the door
Wake me when it’s over.
I’ll be here right beside the cure
I’ll be here right beside the cure
I’ll be here right beside the cure
